Contrary to my assumption that this is a Motorola MicroTAC 9800X in the AMPS version, the device is a MicroTAC 950.
The device can be found under this name in the annual report of 1989. It is shown on page 11 and is called so there.
I think that the 9800X did not exist in the USA and that the MicroTAC 950 was the first flip phone released there.
