Radiocom 2000 is the French mobile network launched in 1986, which gradually replaced the analog network "public correspondence". It is classified in the first generation of mobile category (1G).

Running on the 400 MHz frequency band, the network uses digital technology for signaling and analog modulation for voice. The frequencies are allocated dynamically as needed.

Faced with the growing demand of subscribers, several frequency bands are used on Radiocom 2000 network bands including 200 MHz and 160 MHz on the IDF regions, Lyon and Marseille as well as the 175 MHz band (specific subscription called "Radiocom 2000 VHF A / B ") in 1990 in the north-east quarter of France. Always to meet the demand for more capacity, from 1990 mobiles have become 400/900 MHz dual band, developed by Matra, Mobitel and Sagem as builders. Other brands have released these products to their respective brands (OEM) Original Equipment Manufacturer, Alcatel and Nokia.

With Radiocom 2000 appeared the first cell phone with notions, shortly after its launch, the appearance of handover called "High Density Network" RHD (ability to dynamically change cell) and the allocation of frequencies within a cell. The network covers almost the entire territory. The proposed subscriptions could be regional: Island of France, Lyon Region, PACA, Province and National.

The posts are manufactured by Matra, Radiotel, Alcatel and Sagem. The Nickel-Cadmium batteries are rechargeable. The antenna is smaller than that of a terminal 1980, but the terminal remains bulky and prohibitively expensive (+ subscription unit). It is deployed by France Telecom Mobiles.

In 1988, it has 60,000 subscribers and more than 90% of devices are installed in vehicles. That same year, the competition appears with the birth of the French Society for radio (SFR), combining the General Water Company (41%), Credit Lyonnais (19%), the Joint Shipping Company (8.6%) TDF (7.5%), Banexi (4%), Bell South (4%) and Racal (4%), using the standard NMT-F (Nordic Mobile Telephone "French"). Abandonment for the exclusive benefit of the standard GSM on 28 July 2000.

Very nice! Is this an LED display or color LCD? Looks a lot like the color LCD on the bag phones to me. If so, this is the oldest Motorola I have seen with a color LCD.

This is inverted color LCD display. Just classic no black and poor quality :)

What do you mean by “reversed” color LCD display exactly? Cool that this is a color LCD though! Definitely the oldest phone I have seen so far with one.

Hi NokiaTAC,

I also think that the color LCD display is really cool on this old phone.

Motorola RadioCom 2000 devices are very rare and I have never seen this Clarion before and after my purchase. - (c) 2013
