| Motorola DynaTAC PrototypeYear: 1981Standard: AMPS 800Factory Code: Q2500ANotes: Preproduction Model. The battery is mounted with screws. Retrocellphones wrote: All indicators are red colored. Only 100 units were made for the Washington-Baltimore trial network. All 100 units was loaned for a dealers and collected back in 1983, when the DynaTAC 8000x was oficially released. This is very first AMPS handheld cellphone. My piece contains very rare pre-production antenna with the red tip and a NAM with still programmed trial number. My piece is signed by Marty Cooper. | I think this is one of the oldest cellphone prototypes ever :D Because the DynaTAC was the first modern cellphone ever  Is there any data label or serial number under the battery? Have You tried to take it apart? Peter | |
| Hi Peter,
I tried to remove the screws but one of these are damaged. I am still looking for a tool, but actual I cannot remove them. I guess the MSN and model number were placed on a label at the bottom of the phone. But the label is missing. :(
But if I will get the right tool I will take it apart! :)

| Thomas, have you tried to power up this phone yet ? Interesting that there are no SEND & END labelled buttons on it. Chris. | |
| Hi Chris ,
not yet. Unfortunately, I have no idea how I can get the device to power and also want to do anything wrong and damaging it. :?
Do you have any idea for me?
Cheers Thomas | |
| Hi Thomas. So there are 6 nicad cells in the battery pack. This means you will need a 7.5v DC power source. The positive terminal on the battery pack is the one connected to the diode in the pack. So whatever terminal on the phone aligns with this terminal is where you provide + 7.5v DC. Would be very cool if it did still power up ! Then you need a test set...... Cheers, Chris. | |
