Motorola Personal Phone Series

Year: 1997

Standard: AMPS 800 / Landline
Factory Code: n/a
TAC: n/a
Notes: Very rare and interesting hybrid phone. The Personal Phone Series combines a cordless and a cellular phone in one handset. Motorola and Panasonic made a new type of phone for 6 months called "Home and Away" The phone could be used at home as a home phone over regular land lines or out of the house as a cellular phone. This is when talk time was expensive so using a home land line was a money saver. This service lasted about six months and it quietly disappeared.

 This is officially one of the coolest and most interesting phones I have ever seen! I’m assuming that this can still be used as an landline phone?

Hi NokiaTAC,

Yes, this is really a cool device. You can not find anything about it on the internet. A good friend worked at US Cellular at the time. He could give me some info. It is probably one of the rarest AMPS phones that has ever existed. I was really lucky to find it. 8-)

Cheers
Thomas

Very interesting phone, Thomas. Any idea what frequency it uses for the cordless phone mode ?
I found a few archived articles on the RCR Wireless site about this phone, from 1996.
The service was called FreedomPlus.

Hi Chris,

Unfortunately, I have no idea what frequency it uses in cordless mode. Thanks for the hint to FreedomPlus!
