NEW YORK, NY., - July 21, 1998 -- Striving to meet the demanding needs of North American digital phone consumers, Motorola's Personal Communications Sector announced its intention today to offer both CDMA and TDMA digital wireless phones to cellular service providers in the fourth quarter, 1998. Phones designed in both technology platforms are currently undergoing testing to help ensure that all stringent quality levels and system performance are achieved prior to commercial shipment.

The ST7760 800 MHz CDMA/AMPS digital phone and the ST7790 800 MHz TDMA/AMPS IS136 digital phone are among the smallest and lightest digital phones in the world. Both new digital StarTAC phones incorporate a variety of easy-to-use features that consumers can rely upon for optimal performance in both their professional and personal needs, while still maintaining style, weight, and generous talk times.

Weighing as little as 3.7 ounces, the ST7760 CDMA StarTAC phone provides talk times+ from 90 - 250 minutes or digital standby times+ from 40 - 120 hours. Key phone features include: a full matrix, graphic display providing a variety of viewing options; and variable font sizes so phone numbers appear in large, easy-to-read text while incoming text messages appear in a smaller font so more of the message may be viewed. The ST7760 phone also offers VibraCallTM Alert, Internal Charger, Headset Capability, Caller ID*, Voice Mail Icon*, and Text Messaging*.

The ST7790 TDMA StarTAC phone weighs as little as 3.6 ounces and offers outstanding battery performance providing from 60 to 250 minutes of talk time+ or from 30 - 110 hours of digital standby time+. Key phone features include: a unique, 20 character display with a 10 character scrolling line and a 10 character status line allowing users to receive and store up to 30 messages. The ST7790 TDMA StarTAC phone also offers several features such as VibraCallTM alert, internal charger, headset capability, Authentication*, multi-key answer, voice encryption*, automatic redial, distinctive ringing*, Caller ID*, Short Message Service* (SMS), nine ringer style settings, one button callback*, Turbo DialTM keys, speed dialing and message waiting indicator.

An array of optional Motorola OriginalTM accessories have been designed to help consumers take full advantage of their phone's functionality including an assortment of batteries, desktop and in-vehicle chargers, digital hands-free adapters and data accessories for Motorola's digital CDMA and TDMA StarTAC phones.
