Original press release dated September 30, 1996:

MOTOROLA DEBUTS NEW ADDITION TO ITS WEARABLE PHONE FAMILY - StarTACTM 6000 PHONE NOW AVAILABLE TO MOTOROLA SIGNATURE LOCATIONS

New Mid-Tier StarTAC Phone Weighs in at 3.6 Ounces

LIBERTYVILLE, IL - September 30, 1996 - Today, Motorola announced the availability of the latest addition to its Wearable cellular phone family - the StarTAC 6000 phone. This exciting new mid-tier model incorporates the innovative design of the original StarTAC phone, the world's smallest and lightest cellular phone announced earlier this year. With the introduction of the StarTAC 6000 phone, consumers can now select the StarTAC best suited to their needs.

"Motorola has continually manufactured the broadest range of cellular phone products in the wireless industry," said Robert N. Weisshappel, executive vice president and general manager of Motorola's Cellular Subscriber Group. "Today, we are continuing to expand our phone portfolio to offer even more cellular options for the end user. The StarTAC 6000 incorporates Motorola innovation and unique product design in an affordable and proven package."

The StarTAC 6000 Series features a single line, alphanumeric display with dedicated signal and battery meters as well as a Nickel Metal Hydride battery that provides up to 60 minutes of talk time or up to fourteen hours of standby time. Consumers who require additional talk time will find the optional Auxiliary battery selections to be beneficial as well. The StarTAC phone is the first cellular phone capable of operating with two removable batteries at the same time - a Motorola and industry breakthrough. When one battery's power is depleted, the other automatically provides the necessary power to continue important conversations uninterrupted.

Motorola's new phone also includes a Smart Button for one-handed access to menu operations and a variety of optional batteries and accessories for purchase from authorized Motorola Signature locations around the country.

Motorola created an entirely new category of cellular phones with the introduction of its original StarTAC phone. Cellular phones may literally be "worn" now by consumers - a Motorola and industry first. Whether attached to a necklace, slipped into an armband or placed in a holster, the StarTAC brings a whole new definition to the concept of cellular phone portability.

The expansion of Motorola's StarTAC phone family supports the company's original plan to provide consumers with a broad range of technologically advanced wireless products. Versions of the StarTAC phone are available in several color choices from select nationwide cellular service providers and Signature locations.

Motorola is one of the world's leading providers of wireless communications, semiconductors, and advanced electronic systems, components, and services. Major equipment businesses include cellular telephone, two-way radio, paging and data communications, personal communications, automotive, defense and space electronics and computers. Motorola semiconductors power communication devices, computers and millions of other products. Motorola's 1995 sales were $27 billion.
