The MJ Standard Control Head
The MJ system employed a standard control head design,
developed and manufactured by Secode, all
of which were labeled ITT inside and then labeled with the appropriate
manufacturer's logo on the outside faceplate, such as Motorola, GE, Bell System, left blank, or
with a generic logo saying "Radio Telephone" (see example below.)
The control head is interchangeable among all manufacturers of the equipment,
even though the actual radio packages differ greatly. The cables for
the assorted brands of "MJ" equipment are also all interchangeable, so
that a GE head and cable will work perfectly on a Motorola RF package, and vice
See here a brilliant description from Mr. Geoff Fors:
Amazing carphone control head! MTS/IMTS phones are pretty rare today...
I transferred a nice factory photo from Geoff's site maybe it not make him angry :D
No, it's just the corporate sign (Motorola) on the plate.
My dad has one of these and he wanted to know what they are worth?
My name is terry. I live in the CA area. I am just about to open a western electric (ma bell and Motorola museum) I would love to display the MJ Motorola control head to show the youth of today what took place in the past. I'm not sure what the cost would be today without the equipment package to along with it. Please let me know if you would be interested in donating the unit for prosperity or a amount you might be interested in selling it for.
It's great that you want to open a museum for these beautiful and old devices.
I have long searched for, until I found this old Motorola IMTS phone.
Currently I would not sell any equipment from my collection and please this for your understanding.
Should I want to sell it some time, I will inform you.
Thank you for getting back to me. I appreciate you keeping me in mind. If you should come across something you don't need or have seconds please let me know.

These were wonderful item. I had a working unit for over seven years. When analog was phased out by the government it went to the way side. Not sure on the price anymore. I am about to open a Motorola/Western Electric Museum in CA. I would love to have this on display. Please let me know.
I now have a 2nd device and could give one of the devices. I paid with shipping about $ 300.00 for it and would sell it for it again. Are you interested?
