I've been able to enter the NAM programming on mine with no problem. I forget what key sequence it is, but it's one of the following:

CTL 0 (security code twice) *

or

CTL 0 (security code twice) RCL

Have just added another photo of this phone I found on the web.
The handset is different, black in color, and has the Motorola name where the America Series 820 label is usually.
Mmm, interesting....

Just received one of these phones the other day with all of the original paperwork. Very happy to finally have it since its always been one of my most favorite bag phones.

Very good Nokiatac. These bag phones are pretty rare, probably the rarest of all Motorola bag phones.
Do you have a cellular test set ?

Hi spectreman,

Yes, these are pretty rare, but I think my rarest Motorola bag phone would have to be this one:

This is one of only two complete ones of these I have ever seen. It’s also from 1988 making it possibly the first bag phone Motorola ever produced.

Yes, I do have a Tektronix CMD-80 test set. It works really well and I think it’s a very nice test set.

Ah, ok, this 1988 vintage bag phone is very nice !
I do have the Dynatac 2000 handset, but not a correct matching transceiver for it.
Would it be possible to upload a proper scanned copy of the user guide ?
Would love to have a good copy of this.
Great that you have the test set, but with your one, can you do actual two way voice calls with it ?

No, unfortunately, the CMD 80 cannot do two-way voice calls.

Ok about the test set, great that you have one at least.
My JRC test set does do 2 way voice calls which makes it a bit more interesting.
Thanks for the offer to scan the user guide.
